Governor inaugurates National Conference on “Emerging perspectives In Nursing Care” | KNO

Governor N.N. Vohra today inaugurated the two day National Conference on “Emerging Perspectives in Nursing Care” which has been organized by the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at the Sher-i- Kashmir International Conference Centre.

Welcoming the participants in the Conference who have come from medical care institutions from all over India, Governor observed that this event shall be of immense benefit in exchanging experiences and enhancing the nursing skills of the participants. He complimented Prof. A.G. Ahangar, Director SKIMS, and all his concerned colleagues for organizing this Conference on this highly relevant and contemporary issue.

         Governor observed that effective health care is not possible without nursing which is a vital element of the medical care delivery system. He highlighted the role in providing patient care which is being played by highly specialised nurses the world over.

        Governor emphasised that with rapid progress in the field of medical sciences in India, there is requirement of a very large number of specialised and highly trained nurses. He stated that India is short of lakhs of nurses and stressed the need to focus on building infrastructure to produce highly trained nurses. He noted with satisfaction that J&K has taken steps in this direction and several State of the art nursing colleges in both the government and private sector are coming up, and some have already got established.

      Ms. Asiea Naqash, Minister of State for Health and Medical Education who was Guest of Honour on the occasion highlighted the importance of quality nursing care and use of advanced technologies in delivery of better health care services.

     Dr Reyaz Untoo, Principal, SKIMS Medical College; Dr.Mehmooda Regu, Principal, College of Nursing, SKIMS; Prof. Altaf R. Kirmani, Dean Medical Faculty, SKIMS; Prof. Syed Amin Tabish, Medical Superintendent, SKIMS; Dr. Farooq A. Jan, Nursing Superintendent, SKIMS, shared their views on the emerging perspectives in Nursing Care.

    The Welcome Address and Vote of Thanks was given by Mrs. Shagufta Parveen, Convenor of the Conference and Ms. Rehana Akhtar, Organizing Secretary, respectively.
